The Story:
“‘Saturday night in Parkdale’ is a snapshot of the neighborhood I’ve lived in for many years. In fact, the name of my band, Kitchen Party, is an actual reference to my kitchen at my Queen West apartment where we used to throw mini concerts (until they inevitably got too crazy and shut us down).
While not committing to living here forever, my feeling in the song is that it isn’t so bad for now…The truth is, like the lyrics of the song, I’ve been changing all the time… just like Parkdale.”

-Freeman Dre

Lyrics:
It’s a Saturday night in Parkdale, and I can hear the streetcar rollin’ by,
I’m inside with my sweetheart, gettin’ high.
On a Saturday night.

She says babe could you imagine if we landed on some other side a town?
I say yeah I could, but for now let’s stick around

There ain’t no place built for dreamers quite like Parkdale
and it sounds like Home
And it feels like Home
And it looks like Home
For now.

Well it’s a Saturday night in Parkdale, and there’s a party in the kitchen
Folks came up with some girls from the Cadillac Lounge
Now we’re hangin’ round, and singin’ songs standing on this sacred ground
It isn’t a religion but darlin’, this is how we pray
and the news says polar ice caps are melting at a pace
that could one day in the future wipe out the entire human race
but we don’t think about dyin’ when we hang out at my place in Parkdale

and it sounds like Home
and it feels like Home
and it looks like Home
For now.

It’s a Saturday night in Parkdale
And we’re hanging out in the back
Bath called says he’s comin’ around in a little while, maybe throwin’ around some cards,
So bring your luck and lay it on the table

You know everything’s a gamble down in Parkdale
and outside at the liquor store, it’s buddy can you spare a little change?
Well of course I can today I’ll spare you mine
I’ve been changin’ all the time just like Parkdale.

and it sounds like Home
and it feels like Home
and it looks like it’s gonna be Home
For now.

It’s a Saturday night in Parkdale, and I can hear the streetcar rollin’ by.
